How To Avoid “Holiday Skin” | A Bless Box Guide

The winter holidays are the most magical time of year. But all that time spent of airplanes flying to visit family, sipping on spiked eggnogs, gorging on sweets, cozying up by the fire (or that electric space heater) and trying out new glittery makeup looks can wreak havoc on our skin. I’m talking inflammation, hyper-pigmentation, dryness and breakouts. Yikes! But before you  kiss your NYE bubbly and holiday glam goodbye, read Bless Blog’s tips for avoiding holiday skin. You can eat, drink, be merry and still have glowing, gorgeous skin. So cheers babe!

Stop Stressing

Stress is enemy number when it comes to your skin. Why? Stress leads to inflammation, which means breakouts. If you feel a stress-induced breakout forming, don’t panic! Slap on a detoxifying mask like the L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox & Brighten Mask (featured in our May Bless Box). This mask contains three pure clays plus charcoal to detoxify and brighten dull, tired skin. Easily clear away dirt, oil and pollutants for a super fresh glow and a more even skin tone, instantly.

Brighten Up

Hate to break it to you babe, but all those hours sitting in front of the fire or your electric heater is seriously dehydrating your skin. Plus, excessive exposure to heat can lead to the development of hyper-pigmentation in the skin. The best way to beat hyper-pigmentation is by using a serum or toner with vitamin C. High in antioxidants, vitamin C has been shown to calm inflammation and brighten dark spots! Our pick? The Georgette Klinger Vitamin C Toner (featured in our May Bless Box) which fades sun spots, age spots, acne marks and pigmentation while building up skin’s defensive shield. Follow up with the InstaNatural Complete Organics Argan Oil Therapeutic Serum from our August Bless Box. This serum is rich in Vitamin E and Argan Oil which replenishes the skin while Orange Essential Oil increases circulation for a glowing, bright complexion.

Moisturize!

Did you know that the air on airplanes is almost as dry as the air in the Sahara Desert? Its true. So the next time you get on a plane, be sure to moisturize well before you zonk out. My pick? The Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask (featured in our April Bless Box). This mask takes skin from parched to supple in just 15 minutes. Each mask is formulated with hyaluronic acid, for an exceptional glow. If you don’t feel like doing a sheet mask on the plane, be sure to hydrate well with a moisturizer, like the Simple Skincare Skin Quench Sleeping Cream (featured in our May Bless Box) which absorbs quickly to replenish and revive tired skin while you sleep!

Start Clean

If you plan on going all out with your holiday glam, make sure you have a game-plan for taking it all off! Your skin is your largest organ, and it needs to breathe. Once the festivities are over, be sure to take your makeup off as soon as you can. To remove extra stubborn makeup, a technique called “double-cleansing” can be very effective. First, cleanse with an oil-based formula to dissolve your toughest makeup. Then follow up with a gentle foaming cleanser to get rid of any residual oil, sebum or product. Our pick for a cleanser that’s tough on makeup but super gentle on skin? Pond’s classic Cold Cream Cleanser (featured in our September Bless Box) is made of 50% moisturizer, so it breaks down tough waterproof makeup without stripping your skin. It’s a must-have for dry winter skin!
