Nothing is worse than feeling hangry at work. Sometimes vending machine junk food or that plate of stale doughnuts in the breakroom just won’t cut it, but the thought of prepping an entire week of perfectly balanced healthful meals is a daunting task (trust me I know!) Plus, by the time five o’clock roles around, the last thing you want to do is hit the gym. Having healthy snacks (and snacking right) are the first step to feeling alert, curbing cravings, and maintaining your healthy diet!
Go Nuts for Nuts!
Nuts contain natural protein and healthy fats that keeps your body and brain working properly. Plus the cravable crunch tricks your body into thinking you’ve just eaten a bag of chips! Walnuts in particular contain powerful antioxidants and even help with weight control. So, before you reach for those doritos, try a handful of walnuts and see if that satisfies your craving. I think you’ll be surprised!
Tuna and Whole Grain Crackers
If you have a super busy day and can’t leave for lunch, personal-sized tuna packets are a great stand-in meal to help cure that rumbling tummy. Tuna is packed with protein and healthy omega 3s! Whole grain crackers round out your snack, and help you feel full longer!
If you have a sweet tooth, dried fruit is a great go to snack. I personally love dried mango (like the Much Ado About Mango snacks from Peeled Snacks featured in August’s Bless Box!) and cranberries. Looking for some dried fruit with a crunch? I can’t get enough of the Bare Fiji & Reds Apple Chips (featured in the Spring Bonus Box) or Dang Coconut Chips (featured in the September 2017 Bless Box). You can even make your own trail mix with dried fruit, nuts, whole grain granola clusters and even cacao nibs or dark chocolate chips for a little sweetness.
Low Sodium Jerky
Jerky has gotten a major upgrade from gas station Slim Jims. Low-sodium jerky pack a powerful protein boost, which helps you feel full much longer than a sugary snack. Around our office, we love Krave Jerky, and Vermont Smoke & Cure meat sticks!
Apples and Peanut Butter
Nut butters are easy, delicious desk snacks. You can eat them by the spoonful, or pair them with fruit or crackers! One of my personal favorite snacks combos is apples and peanut butter with a little sea salt, or a sprinkle of cacao nibs on top. Delicious!
Sometimes you just have to have that crunch. When the chip craving hits, I reach for a bag of delish alternative chips made from better-for-you ingredients like Hippeas vegan white cheddar puffed chickpeas (featured in the May Bless Box), Beanitos made from protein-rich beans (featured in the January 2018 Bless Box), or Popchips in either savory Sea Salt (as featured in the November 2017 Bless Box) or sweet Nutter Puffs (as featured in April’s Bless Box).
